The Danger of Being a Pew Sitter
At almost 1,500 feet below sea level, the Dead Sea is the lowest land on the face of the earth. The sea receives water from the Jordan River and several springs around and beneath it, but because it is landlocked, the Dead Sea merely gathers all the water that flows into it. As the water from the Jordan and the springs around it flow to the sea, it gathers minerals from the rocks and land it passes. The most common minerals are sodium and chloride which combine to form salt in the water of the sea. There is so much salt in the Dead Sea that it is consider hypersaline, almost 10x saltier than the ocean. This high salt content kills off any plants or animals that try to live in it, and just a few swallows could kill you too. Hence the name, the Dead Sea. It’s dead because water flows in, but can’t flow out. When you allow God’s Word to flow into you, but don’t do anything with it, you can become as dead as the Dead Sea.
