Changed Life

Changed Life

I had a girl in my youth group whose life was drastically changed over a weekend. We were headed to a youth conference in MN and this girl was constantly asking if we could stop so she could use the bathroom. Now if you’ve ever been that guy or that girl who is asking that question, you know how that goes over. On the way home we were kind of in a hurry because we were supposed to be rendezvousing with people from our church halfway, so I was trying to keep us moving, but about an hour into the trip, that girl asked if we could stop, and said it was urgent. I was frustrated. First, I was under a time crunch; second, there wasn’t a convenient place to stop anywhere. I finally got us off the interstate winding through country roads attempting to find a gas station promised by a road sign, but it was too late. By the time we got there, there had been an accident. This definitely didn’t help the situation, but I talked to the girl got things straightened out and cleaned up, and we finally made it home. The first thing I did when I got home though is go directly to this girl’s parents and talk to them about what had happened. Something wasn’t right because that kind of thing just doesn’t happen to teenage girls on youth activities. Well, she ended up going to the doctor and found out she had juvenile diabetes. You know, that news had a huge impact on her. It changed a lot about how she lived her life, about how her family lived their lives. If she wanted to live, she was required to make some significant lifestyle changes.
